STYLES & CLASS CONTENT

All in all, as a Yoga and Fitness trainer, I try to combine my knowledge of fitness into my yoga lessons as well and try my best to conduct a class that gives all students (adults and kids alike) a well rounded experience of energy and strength to both the body and mind. Helping further to strengthen all core muscles, improve one's concentration skills and sense of balance and well being.

Types of yoga taught in the studio

Iyengar style of yoga:

Iyengar yoga was developed and popularized by B.K.S. Iyengar (pronounced "eye-yen-gar"). Iyengar is a very meticulous style of yoga, with utmost attention paid to finding the proper alignment in a pose. In order to help each student find the proper alignment, use of props such as - blocks, blankets, straps, bolsters, and a rope are all common. There isn't a lot of jumping around but you'll be amazed to discover how physically and mentally challenging it is to stay put. If you have an injury or chronic condition, Iyengar is probably your best choice to insure you get the knowledgeable instruction you need. Props enable students to perform the 'Asanas' correctly, minimising the risk of injury or strain, and making the postures accessible to both young and old.

Vinyasa:

Vinyasa (pronounced "vin-yah-sah") is the Sanskrit word for "flow", and vinyasa classes are known for their fluid, movement-intensive practices and to smoothly transit from pose to pose.

The Bihar School of Yoga:

Bihar School of Yoga imparts traditional yoga teachings. Introduced by Swami Satyananda, it attempts to integrate the physical, psychological and spiritual dimensions of yoga into each practice. It is suitable for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or level of fitness. It is a holistic system which addresses all aspects of human life in the spheres of physical health, mental well-being, emotional behaviour and work environment. Awareness is emphasized and practitioners are encouraged to learn about all aspects of their personality through yoga. Adjustment in stages is emphasized, not a total change in one’s lifestyle and environment.

The style of yoga taught in each class is a combination of all these 3 styles of yoga.

A brief explanation on the different parts of the yoga lesson

Surya Namaskar

10/11 steps of continuous motion to warm up and stretch all the muscles in the body.

Asanas

Are static postures which stretch and tone muscles , strengthen your core and spine and which when held long enough reach to benefit the organs.

Fitness Exercises

To further work on strengthening and toning various muscle groups.

Pranayama

A very important and integral part of yoga. It is breathing techniques which increase lung breathing capacity and an increased flow of oxygen in your body, helping to cure all kinds of physical and stress related problems of both body and mind. The word ‘PRANA’ in ‘pranayama’ means ‘LIFE’. Using this form of breathing in all the ‘ASANAS’(postures) is the way of yoga- which is to be made as ‘A WAY OF LIFE’.

Shavasana

Relaxation to detach the mind from worldly thoughts and connect to the peace within.
